Coach Gibbs Calls it a Day (again.)

Washington Redskins Coach Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs resigned today, surprising many. Family concerns and the weight of this season’s losses (both Sean Taylor’s murder and the games lost), took their toll. Gibbs stands third all time in winning percentage .629 among coaches with 125 games. Behind Halas & Shula.

In one sound byte Gibbs paraphrases the hackneyed self-help mantra “on your deathbed, no one says they wished they’d worked more.”While I don’t doubt his sincerity at this time, I sure hope not to be disappointed in months to come. Remember how Coach Cowher got props for retiring to “spend more time with his family”? They’d built the retirement home in North Carolina and the last of his daughters was in college, I think. I guess we just give him a pass on the first two.
Anyway, he ends up on NFL Today, which tapes in NYC. Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe that Pennsylvania is closer to NC than NYC is. I’m just saying.

But I digress. Coach Gibbs is by all accounts a deeply religious, caring, sincere man. So who am I to doubt?
