Classic Start of the Sox Season

What better way to start the season than with a visit to Fenway Park, Lansdowne Street, La Verdad…

Couple of new shirts.

We passed people on the street bundled up in blankets and winter coats, hoping for tickets.

We had lunch at Ken Oringer’s La Verdad (he of recent Iron Chef victory) – alas the the lengua (tongue) tacos were out. Our third visit. Last time Pedroia and Lowell gracefully declined our drinks.

Then the season starts. Already people are already counting out the Sox for the season. Ortiz is in a slump. Lowell is injured…We had to watch the documentary: Reverse of the Curse. Up and down performances.

If you haven’t seen the movie, it’s well worth it. Funny, moving, crazy…there’s a combination of historical snippets, some myth-debunking and some die-hard fans laughing at themselves. Crying. Explaining the love we have our team.

As an aside: did anyone else notice the way Abreu sneered, actually sneered, at Clay Buccholz the other night? Trying to psych out the young pitcher. Nearly laughing right in his face. I predicted his demeanor would be quite different facing Beckett. Couldn’t have been more different. Abreu never even looked right at Beckett. All business, swinging, looking down…
